Google Lobbying in DC to shutdown AI Efforts?
Good Morning AI Runners
Here's what we've got for you today:
Google Lobbying in DC to shutdown AI Efforts?
Google Lobbying in DC to Shutdown AI Efforts?
It's no secret that AI is rapidly advancing and gaining huge media attention.
However, with any new and powerful technology comes concerns about safety and ethical considerations. This time though? It’s allegedly from Google themselves.
The recent tweet made by Balaji (venture capitalist and entrepreneur) linked below suggests that Google might be attempting to influence government regulations by lobbying and spreading fear about the safety of AI in DC.
Hearing rumors that Google is lobbying DC to shut down other AI efforts, by scaremongering about how unsafe they are.

This may be motivated by the fear that their current technology may become obsolete with the advancements of AI and with Microsoft being very public about its investment in AI and its intention to win this race.
What scares Google exactly?
Let’s give you a quick example, AI's natural language understanding and context awareness capabilities make it easy to provide accurate and helpful answers to follow-up questions, which traditional search engines, like Google and Bing, struggle with.
What are they allegedly planning to do?
Lobby against the spread and high speed development of AI and AI efforts in general.
It's worth noting that any attempts to ban or limit AI research could have negative consequences. Pushing it underground would make it even more challenging to ensure alignment and to address ethical concerns. This is why it's important to approach this topic with an open mind and consider all perspectives.
One of the key things to keep in mind is that AI is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Different AI applications have different requirements and considerations. For example, a chatbot for customer service needs to be able to understand natural language and respond appropriately, while a self-driving car needs to be able to make decisions in real-time based on sensor data. Therefore, the regulations and best practices for AI need to be tailored to the specific application.
It's important to remember that at this stage, it's crucial for AI to interact with the public. This is the only way to identify and improve any misalignment. If we wait too long, it could become dangerous.
Google, the genie is out of the box. Stop crying about it and start releasing what has been allegedly hidden in your labs for years now.
Side note: This tweet idea could have come to Balaji in the shower this morning so take it all with a grain of salt.
