Generating TV shows with AI

Good Morning AI Runners

Here's what we've got for you today:

  • Annotated History of Modern AI and Deep Learning

  • AI generated TV and Movies

If you want to understand the history of modern AI, drop everything and read this:

This a chapter from Jürgen Schmidhuber's upcoming book. He attempts to explain the history and development of the fundamental ideas that gave rise to modern AI, beginning in the 17th century and continuing to the present.

You wouldn't want to miss it.

AI generated TV and Movies

u/BowzasaurusRex on reddit, attempted to generate an episode of The Simpsons using different AI tools.

"The worst episode of The Simpsons ever made", script by ChatGPT, speech by Uberduck, and visualized by Stable Diffusion.

You can watch it here👇

It's was not a particularly entertaining script or episode or anything but it does make you think of the progress we can make in AI TV and movies. We could all eventually be watching AI generated TV, completely customized to our own preferences and interests from plot to characters, with infinite episodes running indefinitely.

Now that would be something we'd want to watch.

Now imagine feeding an AI every single frame of Star Wars, what could it be able to produce?

We'll all find out soon because Disney has been investing heavily in Disney Research, a network of research labs supporting The Walt Disney Company.

Want to be impressed? checkout the Disney Research Hub YouTube channel where they have been publishing regular AI research videos.

For example, this new neural network developed by Disney researchers can change the visual age of actors in TV shows and movies. Producers will be able to use these automated processes that are cheaper and less time-consuming than current methods to make actors look older or younger.

Person:

Jürgen Schmidhuber:

He is a german computer scientist most noted for his work in the field of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and artificial neural networks.

Beef/drama: He has also become some sort of a meme in the AI/ML community due to him claiming credit for many things and his consistent complaints that he is not given full credit for his prior work so you'll always find his name in a long enough discussion on the history of AI and its key ideas. Nonetheless, he is a smart guy and if you are looking to learn more about him we recommend listening to his podcast with Lex Fridman. (The Lex Fridman Podcast episode #11).
