ChatGPT Pro is now available at $42 per month

Hey there ChatGPT enthusiasts! Looks like some of you may have stumbled upon a new "Upgrade plan" option on the ChatGPT web interface and were like "whaaaat? I thought ChatGPT was free forever!" Well, fear not my friends because the Free Plan is still there, but they’re giving you the option to upgrade to the nee professional plan. With the Professional Plan, you'll be able to expand the capabilities of your favorite AI chatbot with 100% availability, faster response speeds, and “priority access to new features”.

Now, I know what you're thinking, it’s just a chatbot why should i pay a monthly fee when google is available and free?

The Professional Plan is listed for $42 a month and It's no secret that OpenAI has been spending a pretty penny on running costs, so monetization was only a matter of time. Plus, the company is also looking to offer the service as a cloud-based API for businesses and developers to integrate into their own apps and services, so they can charge on a pay-per-use basis. So, if you're ready to upgrade your ChatGPT experience, keep an eye out for the "Upgrade plan" option on the left slide menu and sign up if it's available to you. If not, no worries, you can still enjoy ChatGPT with the Free Plan. It’ll look something like this:

Alphabet slims down workforce, but AI job market remains strong

Google's parent company, Alphabet, is cutting about 12,000 jobs as they face "a different economic reality”. This affects 6% of their workforce and follows thousands of layoffs at tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms (the total number of employees laid off is around 51k across a few big tech companies).

Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, said in a memo on Friday that he takes "full responsibility" for the decisions that led to the layoffs. He also stated that this is a moment to "sharpen our focus, reengineer our cost base and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities." Pichai stated that this move will allow the company to take advantage of its early investments in AI and capitalize on the potential opportunities that AI presents

Basically, if you are in Google Brain or any of the other AI departments you’re safe for now.
