Good Morning AI Runners 🏃♂️
Here's what we've got for you today:

DoNotPay's Courtroom AI Stunt Ends
Looks like DoNotPay, the robot lawyer that's used to fight parking tickets, is backing out of its plan to take its AI to the courtroom.
The company's CEO, Joshua Browder, announced on Twitter that they are "postponing our court case and sticking to consumer rights" after allegedly getting some "threats" from the State Bar prosecutors about the legality of the whole thing.
For those of you who missed our previous post on the whole thing, DoNotPay was planning to use its AI to fight a client's speeding ticket in court this February. The idea was that the AI would listen to the case and generate responses using GPT-3 (the same platform used by OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot). The lawyer and client would then hear these responses through a pair of AirPods and repeat exactly what the AI said in front of the judge. Now, some of you may be thinking, "Wait a minute, isn't it illegal to use electronic devices in courtrooms?" And you'd be right! But, according to Browder, they planned on using hearing accessibility standards as a loophole, allowing the client to wear the AirPods during the trial. Plus, they figured the court wouldn't know that the client was getting AI-generated prompts through the earbuds.
In fact, Browder even offered $1,000,000 to anyone willing to wear AirPods and repeat what they're told in front of the Supreme Court earlier this month. But, it looks like all that is a thing of the past.
Let's be real, this whole court case thing may have just been a publicity stunt and a good one at that.
AI Watermark Remover Tool Sparks Copyright Debate
Oh another AI tool covered in an AI newsletter?
no no wait this one is actually funny and controversial (and we love controversy around here).
Watermarkremover.io, is a free tool that can completely remove watermarks from stock images in just one click. This is great news for anyone who's ever wanted to use a stock image without paying for it, but not so great for stock image companies like Shutterstock and Adobe Stock who rely on watermarks to protect their content.
But don't worry, the creators of Watermarkremover.io have got you covered (or uncovered, in this case). In their FAQ, they remind users that "Users of this app are solely responsible for any claims, damages, cost, expenses, suits, etc. brought by any third party pertaining to the usage of the resulting images with the watermarks removed." So, in other words, "Don't blame us if you get sued!". Watermarkremover.io is so easy to use, even a caveman could do it (if cavemen had the internet, that is).
And the best part? It's completely free! So, why pay for stock images when you can just remove the watermarks for free?
But seriously, this is a reminder of how AI can be used for good and for evil in the creative industry. And with the legal landscape surrounding AI and copyright laws being so convoluted, it's important to be aware of the potential consequences.
So, just remember, if you're going to use Watermarkremover.io, make sure you have the original image owner's consent or approval before using the watermark removed images for any commercial use. Or else, you'll have to rely on your "I'm a caveman" defense in court.
