Good Morning AI Runners
Here's what we've got for you today:

LaMDA: Google's ChatGPT competitor
2023 Predictions for AI by Nvidia
Generalist AI agents: Intelligent AI agents, such as chatbots, will be able to solve open-ended problems with the help of large-scale reinforcement learning and massive AI models trained on a vast amount of unlabeled data at scale.
AI is made more affordable by using energy-efficient computing: "Accelerated computing solutions will replace inefficient, x86-based legacy computing architectures that cannot handle parallel processing and instead provide the computational performance, scalability, and efficiency needed."
A simulation-based industrial revolution will be used to mimic everything built in the real world before it is actually built there. The industrial metaverse and digital twins, which include large environments like factories, cities, and sometimes even the entire planet, are expected to play a crucial role in digital transformation initiatives. Many examples already exist: Siemens is pushing the boundaries of industrial automation. BMW simulates whole plant floors to best plan manufacturing procedures. Lockheed Martin simulates forest fire behavior to predict where and when to deploy resources.
in response to budget cuts, cost-effective AI development will be the mantra for 2023, according to Nvidia AI experts. As AI companies grow, their projects will start relying on cloud-based software and hardware that can be purchased and set up to fit any budget.
LaMDA is Google's ChatGPT competitor
As the world was getting introduced to ChatGPT, Google, which had spent years evangelizing that conversational search was the future of the company, stood quiet.
ChatGPT is similar in capabilities to Google products ERT, MUM, and LaMDA. However, It has been decided not to make those technologies accessible to the general public. The failure of Google to capitalize on this opportunity is an example of an incumbent being so concerned with maintaining its market share, reputation, and customer relationships that it chose not to release its more advanced and powerful product ahead of OpenAI.
Why is Google delaying the release of its chatbot?According to Google, the problem with chatbots is that they frequently provide answers with an unwarranted amount of confidence. It is not ideal for Google, a company committed towards giving its users accurate information, to confidently lead users astray with inaccurate information.
How powerful is LaMDA? And what do we know about it?
We don’t have much information but get this:
Blake Lemoine, a Google Engineer, claims that LaMDA is "sentient". Which would imply that it has the capacity for human-like perception and emotion. We know, it’s nuts.Is it that even possible?
Google has never claimed that the chatbot is sentient. Lemoine, however, reached this conclusion after chatting with the bot on topics such as robotics and consciousness.
In our humble opinion AI can’t and won't be sentient, but it will be so good that many people will mistakenly believe it to be. AI can become so skilled at conversing that it would seem to indicate consciousness, but this does not necessarily imply sentience; rather, it simply indicates that the AI is very effective at simulating sentience.
Google has claimed that its chatbot can “engage in a free-flowing way about a seemingly endless number of topics, an ability we think could unlock more natural ways of interacting with technology and entirely new categories of helpful applications”.
OpenAI vs. Google
With all the hype of OpenAI ultimately defeating Google. We believe its too early to assume Google is late or behind OpenAI. For instance, Blake claimed in a tweet (linked below) that despite all the buzz surrounding ChatGPT, Google's advanced dialogue system is still years ahead of the competition.
I love how people are talking about how ChatGPT is gonna replace Google while Google just quietly uses a more advanced dialogue system behind the scenes. ChatGPT is a big step in the right direction but they're still a few years behind Google.
